Gastric Bypass Surgery

Post-Gastric Bypass Nutrition Management

Have you, or someone you know, had gastric bypass surgery and now are suffering from post gastric bypass surgery after-effects?

We have had a number of post-gastric bypass patients come to our office feeling run down and functioning far below par, even 2-5 years after their surgery. For reasons that usually are not clear, these patients were not participating in careful long-term post-operative monitoring and follow-up. This type of surgery may require a physician to continue monitoring a patient months or even years afterward.

Unfortunately, many of these patients have frequently had significant nutritional deficiencies affecting their health. These deficiencies most often have included iron, Vitamin D, Vitamin B1, B6, B12, folic acid, calcium and magnesium.

It is recommend all post-gastric bypass patients have at least one annual lab to check for these problems and deficiencies. Subsequent yearly checkups are also encouraged. We can usually remedy these deficiencies with supplements specially designed to be absorbed after stomach alterations from these surgeries. However, a lab check will help determine the best course of action to bring you back to full health. In most cases, this course of action can be fairly swift if under the proper supervision and care.

Please contact our office today to set an appointment. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Scott Rigden MD
